FloodVault vs. CarCapsule: Two Different Problems, Two Different Products

CarCapsule sells two distinct product lines. The Indoor Signature Series product description states it "protects your treasured vehicle from dust, dirt, dings, corrosion, mildew, musty odors, and pests while presenting it in a show quality display." The Outdoor CarCapsule product page describes it as a "temporary shelter for your vehicle during storms" and emphasizes hail protection along with "harsh elements" year-round.

What is notably absent from both product descriptions is any claim about standing water, flooding, hurricane storm surge, submersion, or hydrostatic pressure. That is not a criticism — it is simply not the product CarCapsule has built or marketed. Treating it as a flood product is a use case the manufacturer does not claim.

CarCapsule's structure is maintained by a continuous-run 12V fan. The Indoor Signature Series ships with a 190 CFM fan; the Outdoor model uses two 12V fans rated at 380 CFM combined. Both also include a washable charcoal filter to maintain the dust- and pest-free environment that is the product's actual job.

The closure on both lines is a nylon "self-healing" coil zipper — on the outdoor models, with Velcro flaps covering the zipper. CarCapsule does not describe their zippers as waterproof in any product spec we could find on the manufacturer's site, and the published basemat description ("impervious to oil, gas, and antifreeze") does not carry a hydrostatic depth rating.

On the power-outage question specifically: CarCapsule sells an IntelliCharge accessory with the Signature Series that, per their product page, automatically switches the fan to battery power if grid power is lost, then recharges the battery when power resumes. We mention this because earlier versions of this article incorrectly implied the bubble simply deflates when power is lost. That was not a fair description.

FloodVault is a sealed full-enclosure waterproof vault. It does not inflate, does not require a fan, and does not need power once deployed. The closure is a TIZIP MasterSeal — the same drysuit-grade waterproof zipper category used in commercial drysuits. The body is RF-welded marine-grade PVC, with a continuous waterproof base designed to hold a seal against sustained hydrostatic pressure during a flood event.

FloodVault is also designed for fast deployment specifically because flood timing is unforgiving. Our product page lists 8–12 minute solo deployment with no tools — the assumption being that you are doing this in the hours before evacuation, not as a long-term storage setup.

If you are storing a car in a heated, dry garage and your concerns are paint oxidation, condensation, mice and dust — CarCapsule has built and marketed a product for that, and they have been doing it since 1991. If you keep a car outside and the threats are hail, UV and weather rather than floodwater — CarCapsule's Outdoor line targets that use case directly.

If your concern is that water can reach the car — a flash flood, a hurricane surge, an underground garage that floods bottom-up — that hazard is not in CarCapsule's published product description, and FloodVault is the product designed for it. The two are not really competing for the same shelf.
